Headache, Neck & Jaw – FAQs

Suffering from headache, neck, or jaw pain? Wondering how QLD TMJ & Headache Centre can help? Please see all of your frequently asked questions below including health funds, open hours & pricing.

Do I need a referral to attend the QLD TMJ & Headache centre?

Absolutely not! While most of our patients are referred from their dentist, GP, or specialist you do not need a referral to make an appointment. Simply book online above or give us a call.

What measure do you have in place for COVID 19?

All staff employed by QLD TMJ & Headache Centre are fully vaccinated and will be wearing a mask during your entire appointment.

As per current government regulations it will be up to your own discretion whether you continue to wear a mask during your appointment. We please ask that you continue sanitise your hands upon entering and exiting the clinic. We will be continuing to clean and sanitise all equipment, surfaces, etc. between patient visits. If you arrive greater than 10 minutes before your appointment we please ask that you wait outside until closer to your scheduled appointment time. This is to help reduce contact time between patients and staff.

We thank you greatly for your efforts and continued support.

What is included in the initial consultation?

Parking

Parking is at the rear of the building via Burke Lane. Upon entering the lane, you can take the first left into the car park. This car park is for clients only and we please ask that you only remain parked here for the duration of your appointment to ensure there is enough space for the next client to also park onsite

All other street parking is for 2 hours unless signed otherwise, or unless it’s a Gabba Event Day (full list of these days can be found here).

Public Transport

If public transport is easier, we’re located close to Woolloongabba busway. You can use the translink journey planner here to find your best route (Translink journey planner)

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

We ask that you please arrive 10min prior to your initial consult to enable enough time to fill in the required documentation.

If you have a referral or have had any scans, please also bring them along to your appointment. (please note these are not necessary to attend your appointment)

Do you treat other areas outside of headache, neck, and jaw conditions?

While we are qualified to treat all musculoskeletal conditions we are experts in the treatment of headache, neck and jaw-related conditions including vertigo, dizziness, and tinnitus. These conditions make up over 95% of our caseload. Please let your therapist know if you wish to be treated for an alternative condition and if we are not 100% confident we will be happy to recommend and refer you to another clinic for ongoing treatment.

What to expect during my jaw treatment?

It is normal to be nervous for your first jaw treatment. After all, your face is such a sensitive area, especially if it is already sore. Treatment will primarily involve assessing different muscles on your face and jaw and putting on gloves to check the joints inside of your mouth. This will all be done slowly and with your permission as you feel comfortable.

Do you take all health funds?

Yes, we take all major health funds. If for some reason the rebate is unable to be processed on-site, we are always able to provide you with an invoice to claim it back online.

How much will I get back from my health fund?

This varies depending on your level of cover. Please contact your health care provider and quote #500 for an initial assessment consult and #505 for a follow-up consult. Your health fund should then be able to provide you with your exact rebate amount.

Do you see patients under Medicare?

Please be aware our clinic does not provide bulk billing services. We do not offer no-gap rebates for physiotherapy services under Medicare.

If your GP has referred you under a ‘Chronic Disease Management Plan’ or ‘EPC’ you are however eligible to receive a portion of your appointment fee back through Medicare. Please ensure we receive all appropriate documentation from your GP prior to your appointment. All patients will be required to pay the full fee upfront, then we can process the Medicare rebate on the spot in the clinic.

**Note: if you are wanting to claim a portion of your appointment through Medicare on an EPC care plan, we need to receive a copy of the care plan prior to your appointment for this to be processed appropriately.

What is your cancellation/non-attendance policy?

Please be mindful of our cancellation policy. We require at least:

  • 48 hours notice for all initial consultation cancellations or rescheduling. A cancellation fee of $80 will be applied for cancellations outside of this timeframe.
  • 24 hours notice for all follow up consultation cancellations or rescheduling. A cancellation fee of $60 will be applied for cancellations outside of this timeframe

These timeframes are in place so that we have sufficient time to contact someone from the waitlist to fill the appointment. We do not like making these charges, so please help us make them unnecessary by notifying us in advance in you are unable to attend.
